Caravan and camping holidays

The term “Grey Nomad” has widely been adopted in Australia to explain the group of retired Australians who are set for the open road to explore Australia with a caravan in toe, on the back of the 4 wheel drive.

There are several different travel and accommodation options if you choose to explore Australia. Many retirees opt to stay in caravan parks and alike for the social aspect and affordability. You may choose any of the following accommodation types when deciding to explore Australia this way:

  • Caravan
  • Motorhome
  • Campervan
  • Camper Trailer
  • Fifth Wheeler
  • Tent
Caravan with water and mountains around it

Some retirees say that there’s nothing better than exploring the beauty and wonder of a region via a caravan trip. It’s not only beautiful, but it’s a convenient and economical way to travel. You can make your caravan your home and meet people along your journey who are sharing similar experiences.

There are plenty of caravan locations where you can stay on a budget throughout Australia, with suitable amenities and other services. Ask if these budget camping/ caravanning locations offer powered sights, showers/ toilets, cooking facilities and internet. If you’re going to travel via caravan frequently, consider joining a club that will entitle you to benefits, discounts and hot deals.

Finally, before you get out onto the wide, open road be sure to stock up on emergency equipment such as a first aid kit, extra water, and canned food. Also have vehicle repair tools, spare tires and other general vehicle spares, and fuel/water/oil. And, don’t forget to pack communication equipment such as CB radio, or a satellite phone if you’re going to be travelling remotely.
