With many setbacks affecting Daydream Island Resort, the resort re-opened its doors in October 2019. A much-loved island resort in the Whitsundays secluded within the great barrier reef, Daydream Island is a retirees dream to visit. With great anticipation to visit the newly restored resort after Cyclone Debbie destroyed it, the coronavirus pandemic’s halted non-essential travel.
After the destruction of Cyclone Debbie hit in 2017, China Capital Investment Group injected $86 million into restoring Daydream Island Resort.
Following the restoration project, the newly re-opened resort boasts 280 refurbished rooms, new bars, modern restaurants, swimming pools and an interactive outdoor reef with a coral lagoon wrapping around the central building.
After recently re-opening, Daydream Island resort has been impacted again. Unfortunately, Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef resorts have had to temporarily shut their doors due to non-essential travel bans in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These include the Daydream Island Resort, the Intercontinental Resort on Hayman Island, and Hamilton Island resorts.
After the COVID-19 pandemic is over, many people will flock to the Whitsundays, including the remodelled Daydream Island Resort.
If you’re flying to the Whitsundays, you can get to daydream island from Airlie Beach via Proserpine Airport or from the Hamilton Island airport. There are ferry transfers across to the island and spectacular ocean views to take in on your short ferry trip to Daydream Island Resort.
While many hotels and resorts are not taking bookings at the moment due to non-essential travel restrictions in response to the coronavirus, there’s nothing stopping you from planning your ultimate holiday to the Whitsundays. Daydream Island Resort not only has the lagoon, restaurants and bars, but it also boasts a ton of activities that you can enjoy. Some might like to plan a relaxing vacation and enjoy the island resort’s day spa, while others may enjoy fish feeding, going on a helicopter, or a guided snorkel.
You can go to the Daydream Island resort website for further information about the newly refurbished island resort and all it has to offer.
