There are many different ways that you can plan a working holiday in retirement. Does this sound appealing? Continue to earn while you travel around Australia from town to town.

You might even think about funding your overseas holidays by including some work on the side while travelling locally or globally. Obviously, if you’re travelling overseas you’ll need to have the right visas in place first.  With this in mind, there’s so much that you can do to earn while you travel. You might bring an important skill set whereby you can work and share your knowledge with others. Or you might want to search for a more simple job on your working holiday where you can be social and immerse yourself in the culture with the locals. Here are some recommendations on working and travelling both locally and abroad.

Working Holiday Ideas For Retirees

There are many ways to earn while you travel during retirement. You could use your work-life skills to earn extra cash as you take off on adventures. For example, if you’re an electrician or other trade, many regional and rural communities need you. If you’re an accountant, a hairdresser, a nurse or a hospitality guru, there’s often casual or contract work available.

Alternatively, retirees might like to do something different from what they did during their working life to earn extra money while travelling. You might enjoy outdoor activities like a farm stay, or fruit picking. Or you might like to make and sell arts and crafts. Whatever you decide to do, a working holiday can be a lot of fun.

Global Travel and Work in Retirement

If you’re moving away or travelling abroad, working overseas in retirement can be a thrilling experience. A working holiday gives you the opportunity to meet new people from different cultures and backgrounds. If you have work experience to offer, you could mentor and pass on your skills to others. For example, if you’re a nurse you could teach carers and nurses those advanced skills that Australian health professionals train in. You might enjoy teaching English to students or helping others with farming skills. No matter what your skills and interests are, global work and travel will provide interesting opportunities while helping to fund your adventures.

Volunteer Work in Retirement

You might also like to do some volunteering while you travel. This could give you the opportunity to cross off some items from your bucket list while helping others at the same time.

Have you ever volunteered abroad? There are hundreds of volunteer projects in other countries including Africa, South America, Asia, Europe and parts of Australasia. These volunteering projects offer a combination of cultural engagement and exploration. From teaching languages to providing health care or child care, there is much to offer. It could be your opportunity to make a small difference in the world. There are hundreds of volunteering websites online that can help to guide you in the right direction.
